Cutting Board Care

Maintaining a cutting board is a quick and easy task that will keep your board sanitary, looking new and extend the life of your board. Here are some easy instructions to help you out!

Cleaning Your Board:

Scrub your board with mild soap under running water. Immediatly dry with a towel to remove most of the water and then allow the board to dry standing up or on a rack to allow air flow around the whole board. Allowing it to dry on one side at a time could cause warping.

Do NOT:

  • Put your board in the dishwasher.

  • Submerge the board in water or allow it to stand in water.

  • Use bleach on your board. It will dry out the board and can cause staining.

Waxing Your Board:

Our Board Balm is a blend of food safe oils and waxes that will help protect your board from moisture and bacteria.

Instructions:

  1. Clean your board (See above)

  2. Apply a generous amount of balm to the board with a soft cloth.

  3. Rub onto the entire surface of the board.

  4. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.

  5. Buff off.

Fixing Scratches:

Yes, if you cut on your cutting board you will indeed get scratches. Most of the time they don't have any effect on the board other than aestetics, but if you want to restore your board to a like new condition, you certainly can do that.

  1. Sand the surface of the board with an orbital sander (Sanding by hand would take a very long time). Start with a low grit (~80-100) untill the scratches disapear.

  2. Move to a higher grit sand paper till you get to at least 220 (Higher for a smoother finish)

  3. Clean off the surface of the board of saw dust and generously apply mineral oil to the surface.

  4. Allow a few minutes for the oil to soak into the wood.

  5. Apply Board Balm (As above).

  6. Enjoy the beautiful new surface of your board!
